Thu, 8 June 2006 Ken Wilson, Simplicity - The Discipline of PriorityModel Jesus replied, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head." MandateLuke 9:58 (NIV) But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33 (NIV) "Martha, Martha" the Lord answered, "You are worried and bothered about so many things, but only one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her. DefinitionLuke 10:41-42 (NASB) Simplicity is intentionally living a life free from the clutter of having too much to think about and too much to do. Purposes-Simplicity allows us time to love God and love others, not ourselves. Dangers-Simplicity frees us to pursue eternal values which leave a lasting impact. -Simplicity is not legalism, which adds another burden to live. Directives-Simplicity is not asceticism, which focuses on not having. -Simplicity is not just getting out of the rat race, which is not enough. -Simplicity is not solving the world's poverty problem, which we can't. -Simplicity is not just being ecologically minded, which we should. -Find contentment in both poverty and properity. (Phil. 4:12-13; Heb 13:5) -Trust God to provide your needs. He can and He cares. (Matt. 6:25-33) -Watch out! Possessions can rule & destroy you. (Matt.6:24;1Tim.6:9) -Invest in what lasts. (Luke12:33;6:19-21) -Be generous with your possessions. (Luke 6:30) -Simplify in order to prioritize. (Matt. 6:33;13:45-46;Luke 10:41-42 Comments[0] |
